The improvements in protection and weight offered by new top-end helmets is striking. Giro’s Aries Spherical hit the shops first. It’s lighter than its predecessor, at 275 g for a size Medium. Spherical technology blends with MIPS for top-rated direct and rotational impact security.
The new Lazer Z1 includes KinetiCore, Lazer’s “built in, not added on” direct and rotational impact protection. KinetiCore allows Lazer to use less plastic, improve ventilation, and significantly cut weight. A Z1 KC in size Medium tickles the scale at a claimed 220g — and at least one reviewer found it weighs less than that.
They fit a little differently, and both have excellent adjustment systems.
To us, the Z1 is noticeably lighter.
Is it time for a new helmet? Either of these is an excellent choice.
